Crow Creek
Crow Creek was an important gold mining stream between the 1890s and the 1940s. The numerous hydraulic mining operations in the valley used water power of Crow Creek itself to power hydraulic jets, gold sluices, and at least one Pelton turbine (used to provide mechanical power).
In July 2010, the UAA School of Engineering team installed an electronic stream gauge on Crow Creek reek, on private property on Omega Mine Circle (off Crow Creek Road). Below are graphs of the water level, and water temperature, recorded by the gauge between August 14, 2010 and November 7, 2010; and between July 21, 2010 and August 14, 2010. Also below are tables of point discharge measurements made on Crow Creek between 2004 and 2010. Several more stream flow (discharge) measurements need to be made at the site before a calibration curve can be developed for stream flow vs. water level.
